K2 Wins Four 2014 ASID Design Excellence Awards
K2 Design Group INC wins four Design Excellence Awards from the American Society of Interior Design. Three of these awards were attributed to a recent remodel with remarkable results.
A tired circa 1990’s condo offers views and beach frontage that is irresistible. Size and location were perfect, but that’s about all. A total renovation was required. The result provides the owners with a smart, transitionally designed beach condo that meets all the points on their criteria list. From the entry lanai through the entry hall to the master suite, all the spaces were designed to obtain maximum ceiling heights, to create substance and character where bland existed before, and to transform the aging condo into something of today. A transitional style suited the building architecture, the surrounding environment, and most importantly, the owners’ desire to have a home with structure. Though challenging, the commitment to good design and organized presentation resulted in a warm and inspired new condominium home. The project earned the ASID Design Excellence Award for Renovation over 5,000 sqft.
The second ASID Design Excellence Award won by K2 was for Unique Application of a Product. Now TV’s are everywhere. In this formal living room, the owners wanted the TV to be out of sight until the Super Bowl! A photographer and a member of the K2 staff waded through the swamp of a cypress stand to capture a stunning image. The image was printed on fine vinyl textured to look like canvas and then mounted on bi-folding panels that have 180 degree hinges on each end. When the panels are fully opened to expose the TV, two lovely sections of the photo remain in view.
During the design development of this beachfront condo master bathroom, K2 determined that indirect lighting would be used in a large ceiling recess. Not content with available light fixtures, it was determined that the project would be more special with a fixture sized to stand up to the large opening in the ceiling. K2 used the juxtaposition of hard and soft, high sheen and matte. The outer shade is textured and protected linen. Each lantern is surrounded with metal mesh in polished nickel, the mesh alternating between round and flat rods. The lanterns are acrylic framed with polished nickel. The 9’ long assembled and installed fixture took months to come to fruition. And, the time was well spent as this chandelier took home the ASID Design Excellence Award for Product Design –Fixtures (attached).
The fourth ASID Design Excellence Award went to K2 for Product Design –Furnishings (detached). This reception desk makes a strong first impression while keeping it cool and contemporary.
